SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is the place where you construct your own web pages and implement certain techniques to help you rank high on search engine results . The higher your pages ranks on Google/Yahoo/Bing/etc., result pages, the more traffic your site gets.
SEO can be split up into two separate categories-
- On-Page SEO
- Off-Page SEO
On-Page SEO refers to the things you can do ON your website to help you rank high, such as internal linking, page titles, meta tags & descriptions, etc.,
Off-Page SEO refers to the things that you can do directly OFF your website to help you rank high, such as social networking, article submission, forum & blog marketing, etc.,
First I will tell you about On-Page SEO which is very important to crack global traffic.
On-Page SEO(Search Engine Optimization)
1. Page Titles
Your post titles are one of the most important SEO factors that brings traffic to your site. Each of your pages & posts should have its own unique strong title, which includes the main keywords of your page.
For example, you could write a blog about a new chocolate cake recipe which you’ve tried or heard about. It is therefore vitally important that you include ‘Chocolate Cake Recipe’ within your post title, perhaps “Tasty Chocolate Cake Recipe”, “Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe” or “ Chocolate Cake Recipe for kids”, etc.,
So, whenever someone searches for Chocolate Cake Recipes in a any search engine, your post has a better chance to be on top as you have included those keywords.
2. Meta Descriptions
Many people don’t include meta descriptions for their pages. These descriptions are very important. It searches the relevant keywords for your content, and displays your post on the result page.
For example- We again take ‘Chocolate Cake Recipe’ , a good meta description for that page would include those keywords and related ones. So, “This simple chocolate cake recipe is possibly the most delicious, watering mouth, yummy in tummy, best chocolate cake ever made.” would be a great meta description to use, as it is relatively short, whilst containing a number of specific keywords.
3. Meta Tags
For each page, you can include a set of keywords in the form of meta tags. These should be all the relevant keywords of your content, which you will have researched previously. I use a WordPress plug-in on my sites called ‘All In One SEO Pack’. This will let you to enter all of your meta tag keywords, meta description and page tit at the bottom of each of posts before publishing. This simply inserts all of the information into your page HTML format for you. It will make your work a little easier.
4. URL Structure
Include search engine friendly URLs for all pages is highly recommended, as these bring better crawling. Shorter URLs seem to perform better in search engine results.
URLs that include targeted audience keywords, also perform better. The location of these keywords can also play a big role. For example domainname.com/keyword would perform better than domainname.com/123/456/subfolder/keyword etc.
As you can see for this page, the URL is
5. Keyword Density
Including relevant keywords throughout your content is very important to help the search engine to recognize what your content is about. However, try not to excessively repeat and overuse keywords just for search engine robots. This can lead to your site being banned from search engines.
6. Image SEO
Using images within your content is a great way to make your page more visually attractive. And, break up with the boring blocks of text. You can make use of these images to help improve your site SEO.
All your uploaded images have titles. So, keep them same as your page titles. Adding relevant keywords can help users to find your site when searching on Google Images.
Also include Alt Text and Descriptions for your images, to make them more useful with SEO.
These 6 techniques are the ways that you can improve your on-page SEO. Following the above steps will help your page to work better than ever.
